Cardwell Located 165 klm north of Townsville is the gateway to Hinchinbrook Island, Australia's largest Island National Park. Uninhabited, except for an eco lodge at Cape Richards, the island abounds in flora, fauna, crystal streams, palm-fringed beaches and mangrove waterways.
The Thorsborne Trail along the island's eastern side is a world renowned four to five day hiking track. The less energetic or those pressed for time can see the island on a day cruise or scenic flight.
Cardwell's claim to fame is that it is the only town on the Bruce Highway between Townsville and
Cairns which is on the coast.
