A common fungus found growing in sand in arid and semi-arid areas, often seen along desert tracks. A type of stalked puffball, it has a hard woody stem topped with a papery white cap that appears to be made up of large irregular scales. The cap falls away at maturity revealing a mass of black-brown spores. The whole structure grows to about 10cm high.&lt;br /&gt;
