Anyone travelled the Birdsville or Strzelecki tracks in the last couple of weeks? Wondering about condition of road given rain a few weeks ago? Cheers

Peter or Ivan, have either of you used Walkers Crossing recently? I know it is currently closed due to flooding, by I won't be up there until late August - just wondering what it was like when not flooded.
Thanks :-)

Not since 2018.
Easy drive, wide road, corrugated between graders.

Pics got shuffled when loaded, but you get the idea.

Walkers is closed indefinitely. It is a private road that is opened at the stations and Moomba will. We were told they are sick of idiots driving were ever they liked.

Peter_n_Margaret. It's a far different track now. The only a few graded bits and the rest was a basic farm track with lots of water damaged sections. We did it just before they closed it last time and it hasn't been opened since

Thanks guys; really hoping to do it later in the year, but I note what you say about it being closed indefinitely. Annoying when idiots bugger it up for everyone else who just wants to explore a different route.

I did the Birdsville track a couple of years ago. To add to what has been already said.
Have a CB radio in car, to talk to on coming traffic. Not ideal to meet at the top of sand dune and not been able to pass. Some people announce there location on CB to assist with this ie. "We are traveling west 30kms from Birdsville" Generally if you can hear them, they are within a few kms.
We didn't really lower tyre pressure much.
Salt lakes look like a solid hard surface. But they can become soft once the surface opens. We almost got stuck mucking about on a salt lake 2 player games.... Lol
