DO YOU HAVE A FREE VERSION?
No. This is a full-featured, premium app offering GPS, Navigation, Mapping and Tracking complete with offline content that exceeds and outshines the features of any other Australian travel app. It also features loads of customisable settings and features, offers full user interaction, and user-generated updates and unlike any other app of its kinds, allows you to create and save private content (notes, folders,
places,
treks). The initial app purchase includes our premium whole of Australia
EOTopo maps for online use (can be downloaded & stored for offline use with additional fee).
IS THERE A SUBSCRIPTION FEE?
No, the app is purchased as a one-time payment and includes regular free updates with new features, improvements, and refinements for compliance with new devices.
DO I NEED TO PAY FOR THE MEMBERSHIP TO USE THE APP OFFLINE?
No. The Traveller app works and tracks offline for all users. The only extra you must get for offline use is the
EOTopo licence (to download the maps).
Membership is not required but there are some extra perks and features that are only accessible if you have a Member account. Please refer to the specific list of
Membership Perksfor details.
CAN I SHARE THE APP WITH MY PARTNER?
Yes app sharing is managed through your Google or Apple account. Look for instructions on the respective app store support pages. Google use the term Family Library and Apple use the term Family Sharing but they both work in the same way. To share the app, both people will need to be using the same platform. The person who has bought the app goes into their app store account and activates Family Sharing by nominating specific named people who they allow to view their app library. The other person goes into their app store and looks for the Family Sharing area, identifies the person who has allowed access to their apps and then browses through their list of apps and then downloads their selected apps. With
ExplorOz Traveller, once it is installed, you can share the same ExplorOz account login details (ie. email account/password combination). The additional user/s then doesn't need to pay for a map licence if you already have one and also ensures you are sharing the same app data/trip plans/
membership etc).
WHY DO I SEE A CHARGE TO DOWNLOAD THE APP AGAIN?
A common misunderstanding is not being aware that app purchases are always platform-specific. The Traveller app follows standard app store licensing for ownership and updates. This means that if you originally bought the app on an Apple device (iOS), you cannot download it for free on an Android device (or vice versa). App purchases are tied to the platform AND account you used at the time of purchase, not shared across platforms. If you've switched platforms, you'll need to buy the app again for the new system. However you can make unlimited downloads/installs to additional devices and future new devices on the same platform. This only affects the download of the Traveller app itself. The additional add ons (
EOTopo maps and
Membership licences), together with all your personal app content is retained for cross-platform use via your ExplorOz user account login.
DO I NEED TO PAY FOR MAP UPDATES?
Yes,
EOTopo map updates are a separate purchase. A new version is released annually, but older versions remain functional for up to 4 years. See details Terms & Conditions on the
EOTopo webpage.
DO YOU HAVE TUTORIALS?
Yes we have a large number of Tutorials on the
ExplorOz YouTube channel. Go into Playlists - select
ExplorOz Traveller App Tutorials. For your convenience you can also play the videos directly in this page - see Video Tutorials tabs on this page.
We also have PDF Help Guides - these are very pictorial and simple, covering just 1 topic per guide in easy to digest visual and step-by-step format. You'll find these Help Guides on this page (see Section: Help Guides) and also in the app so you have access when offline (open the app main menu - scroll down to Help Guides).
I'M HAVING TROUBLES - WHERE CAN I GET HELP?
If you are able to open the app, go into the left side bar menu, select Help Guides. These are short and visual, easy to digest step by step instructions. Each guide covers just one simple topic and most guides are only 2 pages long. We highly recommend you read these to get a clear idea of app usage. You can then combine this information with the video tutorials on our YouTube channel. The Help Guides also contain clear step by step troubleshooting steps to help get you back up and running for any commonly known hiccups that people have previously experienced.
WHICH HEADUNIT DO YOU RECOMMEND?
If you wish to install a new headunit or replace the existing headunit, we recommend buying an aftermarket one with a dedicated Android operating systems. Watch out for the restrictions of headunits only offering CarPlay or Android Auto (see section above).
Here's a list of headunits with a full Android operating system:
ECOffroad,
VHEIDA,
T'eyes,
Polaris, plus a growing list of many more brands.
Alternatively, if you wish to keep your older factory-fitted stereo, consider the GROM VLine VL2. This is a box that connects to the back of the unit for integration into the existing infotainment system and display. Available for selected Toyota, Nissan and Lexus. See
Cushie Audio.
HOW DO I KNOW IF THE APP WILL WORK ON MY DEVICE?
Please refer to the section above "System Requirements". Whilst the app store will permit access to download the app based on operating system compatibility, you must be very conscious of the wide variability of hardware quality in between different brands of devices/models that can greatly affect performance. It is up to you to determine what device you wish to use. If buying new, we recommend buying the best device your money can afford.
WHAT IS BETTER - APPLE OR ANDROID?
We recommend sticking with your preferred operating system (Apple or Android) so you can easily install the app on both your phone and tablet. Utilise features like Family Sharing (Apple) or Family Library (Android) to share the app with partners on the same platform.
The
ExplorOz Traveller app functions identically on both Apple and Android platforms. However, Android offers a wider range of device choices from various manufacturers, with varying hardware quality/specs/performance. If you do prefer Android we recommend buying either Samsung or Google Pixel and avoiding cheap brands. If buying Samsung - you definitely want to choose a device in the premium S model range, whereas the A model devices are built for student/
home use with budget specs and hardware and will not offer comparable robust performance for navigation and mapping. A quality device will make a huge impact on the app performance and your satisfaction. If you're looking for a small but powerful tablet we would recommend an Apple iPad mini. All Apple devices are manufactured by Apple and they do not produce budget devices, so any current model will perform
well. [
