The FAQs below cover device compatibility, offline use, and platform support as Traveller transitions to newer app versions as
well as clarification on map detail.
What Devices does ExplorOz Traveller run on?
ExplorOz Traveller is available on:
- Apple iOS (iPhone & iPad)
- Android (phones, tablets, and Android head units)
- Web App (browser-based access on PC or Mac)
Can I use Traveller offline on a PC?
New purchases of the Windows app are no longer available as we transition to our newer map engine. However:
Existing Windows Users:
If you already own the app, Version 9.5.4 remains fully supported for your current device. You can continue to use your existing offline maps and sync data as usual.
New PC Users:
We recommend the Traveller Web-App, which allows for full trip planning and review on any PC or Mac browser (requires
Membership).
Active Navigation:
For in-vehicle use on a larger screen, we now recommend using the Android version on an Android-based head unit or tablet.
Is there a PC or MACOS version for Planning?
Yes. The Web App allows you to use Traveller in a web browser on a Windows PC or Mac. It’s a Member-only feature and is designed purely for planning and review, not navigation.
To use the Web-App you will open a Member-only page on the ExplorOz website so first, you'll need to
Get your Membership here.
How do I open the Web-App?
Open the ExplorOz website on any computer - you can open the Web-App from any page of the site. Go to the Products heading - select Web-App. You must be logged into the site using your Member account to gain access to this page. You can bookmark the page for future visits, however the link will change anytime a new update (version) is released, so if your bookmark expires, use the Products heading to find it again and save a new bookmark.
Can I use Traveller in my vehicle?
Yes - Traveller works
well in vehicles when used with:
- Android head units
- Other Headunits with Android AI Box Adapters
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto do not support Traveller natively. See the "Using Traveller in your Vehicle" section above for the recommended solution using the AI Box Adapter.
Can I use ExplorOz Traveller on multiple devices?
Yes. You can use Traveller on multiple devices on the same platform (Apple or Android) - app downloads are managed by your account with the app store (not ExplorOz). The one purchase covers multiple downloads and Family Sharing. Please visit the app store support pages to read instructions to use the Family Sharing feature. For Family Sharing on Apple devices see
Apple Family Sharing. For Android devices see
Google Play Family Library.
If you use both Apple and Android devices, the app must be purchased for each platform. Once signed in, your ExplorOz account manages the content, maps, and
membership (if applicable) so you can share your app content across devices. In this way, you only need 1 purchase of the offline EOTopo maps for use across multiple devices.
How Well Does Traveller work without Mobile Coverage?
For offline use, your device must have:
- access to satellite location services via GPS
- downloaded EOTopo maps (additional purchase required - see Detailed Setup section above).
When using the app offline the whole of Australia, high resolution vector map remains fully interactive and functional to help you locate
Places, search, and use any saved
Routes and
Track Logs. Tracking continues to record positions when offline and Snail Trail display of your active tracking remains visible. Online access is only required for downloading maps, syncing content, or using live
services (ie. auto route calculations, editing ExplorOz
Places, viewing active Member-Tracker live map).
How do I know if my iPad is compatible?
Provided your iPad has a minimum version of iOS
14 you will be able to download the Traveller app from the App Store.
If your iPad is a Wifi only model, it will not have capability to use satellite location
services as these models do not have a built in GPS. This issue will compromise tracking and display of your current location but can be resolved by using an external GPS.
Any of the following external GPS receivers are suitable - just check for compatibility with Apple: Garmin Glo2 Bluetooth GPS Receiver, Dual XGPS160 SkyPro GPS Receiver, Bad Elf Pro+ (BE-GPS-2300), GlobalSat BU-353N5 (USB GPS Receiver), Qstarz BL-1000ST / BL-1000GT.
Note: Starlink (internet Wifi) does not provide location, only data connection.
