Hi there,
I would appreciate some input. We have a 2023 Isuzu D-Max dual cab ute. It’s fitted with an EGR electric roll top cover. I have installed an aftermarket tail
gate sealing kit, which has only partially worked.
Currently half way through a trip around Qld top end and the NT and have ended up with a heap of dust in the back.
What have people done to seal the tailgate to keep the dust out.
Thanks

I tried to seal
mine using 25x25 rubber seal from Clark Rubber which worked really
well until I drove on gravel :))
I think the only way to stop dust is to have positive pressure in the tube but having a roller top make it hard.
I have a canopy with lift up side windows and I think I could leather down the back lock but have the front lock not latched which would leave a gap of 15 to 20 mm on the front acting like a scoop but this doesn't work with your setup.

Guys
All I can say is best of luck trying to keep
the tub dust free.
Should you manage to seal the tailgate then you have an issue where the front of
the tub between the floor ribs and the adjacent panel leaves holes under the ribs (these allow water to escape), and also you have a massive cavity between the tail lights and the wheel arches, the top end of which is directly below the top rail of
the tub. (Just follow the inner panel just forward of the tail lights up under the top rail and you will find the top end of that cavity).
Ute tubs are not designed to be dust proof.
Regards
Athol

If you have a small but wide wing deflector above tub rear edge, probably inconvenient for you, but if shaped the reverse of a racecar wing and held on two vertical brackets emanating from the tailgate catches, it will ensure the VACUUM at rear of
the tub is destroyed and dust won't be sucked up into the tailgate area. Those cavities at the side/top under the upper most edge would need to be sealed with foam or similar.
Some use a deflector at rear of dual cab to catch wind over the roof and defect it down to the tube rear. That helps.

Hi Pete
The only problem with the so called genuine seal, it’s double the price of the people that make them, EGR

The EGR seal work perfect Kazza, but
mine was $320, and the genuine Mazda rebranded EGR were $675
Not sure what the genuine ones are worth now

Take the back seats out of the cabin, put anything you don't want to get dust on inside the cabin. ;)

Hi Red Rocket,
Because you have a “roll top” cover on
the tub that by its very construction must have gaps between the segments so that it can “roll”, it will never be absolutely dust proof on corrugated roads. The vibration from the corrugations will separate and “rattle” the segments enough to let the dust in. You could possibly cover everything under the roll top with a tarp when heading onto a gravel road, but I do not see anything else being effective.
Macca.

The tailgate has a huge gap around the edges thats the biggest area to let dust in

Macca, it does not matter how good the tailgate seal is if you have an alternative route for the dust ingress.
I have had 4 twin cab utes. There were a couple of Hiluxes from the late 80s and early 90s. More recently, I have owned a D40 and currently a D23. Each one had a canopy. The canopies were fairly good dust seals. My modus operandi was to put the front end of a tarp under the rear end of the load. The rest of the tarp was folded over the load and reached nearly to the front of the load. In every case, dust poured in through the tail
gate and lodged on the tarp. It was a simple matter of carefully pulling the tarp back through the tail of the vehicle. The result was I pulled the dust out of the rear and the load was nearly dust free. I loaded things into plastic tubs with lids, that resulted in dust free loading, the tubs caught the residual dust that creeped around the tarp.

PeterD,
I understand that, it is why I suggested that the dust may be getting in through the roll top cover.

Hi
We have an MY22.75 X Terrain and had fitted an EGR tailgate seal, you will not get any dust in from the tailgate, but I seem to get it coming in from the front of
the tub

I've never successfully sealed a factory tub and i've had plenty of them. As mentioned above, if you can create positive pressure with a fan or vent you don't have to seal it.
