How much bitumen on the Sterzlecki Track ?

It's effectively a twin lane dirt highway anyway. Gets a lot of maintenance because of the oil and gas fields. Only a hassle when it rains.

What is the section between Moomba and Innamincka like? I think 2013 or 2014 was the last time we went through and the road was good except that section which was very stony with lots of gas field traffic. Several people by the wayside with serious damage. When we left went via the Orientes Rd to Tibooburra a beautiful drive.

In June last year, the section between Moomba and Innamincka was in very good condition. Like any outback road, track conditions can and will vary all the time depending on local weather conditions.

As for the complete Strzelecki Track, it was in good condition all the way down to Montecollina Bore and from there down until Lyndhurst was in its usual stoney condition.

As we always say its a matter of lower tyre pressures and driving to the track conditions and it is a good drive.

Moomba to the Inna turn-off is called the Della Rd by the locals, as per the oil/gas field. Can get badly corrugated.

Now that there's major exploration and development north of Inna we can expect it to be in poor shape more often.

The sealing of the Strez is on the Infrastructure Australia National Priority List but with no funding commitment. The sealing of the Tanami is also on the list at a higher priority level. Big bikkies in both cases for relatively few users.

There has been some govco talk about sealing it, maybe someone got confused when they posted the original info.

Jackson area was the only unsealed bit from Brissy to the border of SA when I drove it October, maybe about 10km all up unsealed but still not a bad bit of road.

G,day Stephen, Who were you working for around Jackson at that time,I was with Norpac seismic crew all around there in the 80's,Naccowlah,Bransby etc.

Hi Sparra with SSL we camped near dirt airstrip..We were ready to leave Cooper Basin for long break over Summer but Delhi Petroleum need to keep lease by doing exploration before end of year.It was only a few lines and quick runs by Vibe trucks it was dam hot and the flies incredible.Rough country but spectacular.In Adelaide Advertiser they put a article with photo of the tents we lived in and said how tough our jobs were .Still got it..Loved Seismic but but for back all the r9ugh driving thrashing company Landcruisers.Also we could drink as much as we liked and smoke weed too ,helped you sleep at night.I however loved those days like free life seeing the outback without a care .I do it tough living in surburbia and working .The team spirit most times was pretty good if no bleep s
