Question: Caravan Interior

We have bought a new 21 foot Newlands Zodiac family van - 3 bunks. We have got 2 children one of them is a baby (8 months). The first (and last time) we used the van, the baby was so tiny that we just installed some hooks and a sailing saftey net on the middle bunk but now he is full mobile, crawling and standing. We are so confused what the safest and easiest option we can do to keep him safe at night. He still wakes during the night so definitely need something I can get in and out of easily. We are so sure that there is something but continue to argue about what we can do. Has anyone transformed a bunk into a safe place for a baby? Happy to get any ideas!!!! The van is to small for a portacot!!! Help me....need to get this sorted before our 3 week Christmas trip!!!

hi amy , we too have 3 children. we have a triple bunk caravan(coromal). we too have that problem, all we did was to get some ply wood about 12 inches high and the length of the mattress , so bubs couldnt roll out. we just slide this down the side of the mattress once asleep . it works at treat and doesnt cost too much. hope this helps chris

Maybe put the little one in the bottom bunk.

Amy

Have you thought of something like cargo netting, but finer, or something like the V8 supercar drivers have, for their side window.

Easy drop down, and clip up at night.
Sorry I cannot offer foto's, but there would be things, and people out there that can help
Cheers

Most Jayco campers has a similar arrangement on one of the end beds. (check out a new one for ideas)

A piece of shade cloth or similar connected to the base of the bunk (screws?) under the mattress connected to a length of electrical conduit the length of the mattress maybe 300mm high. Connect some webbing straps from the conduit to clasps on the bottom of the bunk on top.

Easy to clip up and unclip if needed in the middle of the night and can be tucked under the mattress is not needed and does not stop air circulation

In our Jayco Eagle Camper, we had made up a net made fom "Truck Mesh", a bit like a thick fly screen. It had some of those backpack type clips to clip it into the roof, and it had a zip vertically in the middle.

I based the idea on what was supplied by jayco, but made it the full width and height of the bed opening area.

I still have it sitting in my shed, the couple we sold the camper to had no little kids so did not require it.
