Today we travelled from
Wentworth to
Tolarno Station which is between
Pooncarie and
Menindee. Fuel is available again from the store in
Pooncarie and we availed ourselves of the service as we were not sure about the lack of fuel in some
places due to the issue with some of the petrol tankers.. The road from
Pooncarie was rough and corrugated in parts especially where sandy. The strange section of Bitumen south from the border between Central Darling Shire and
Wentworth was great and I think has been extended a little south from where it was 2 years ago. We took it easy on the dirt sections as we weren’t in a hurry.
Tolarno Station has some great history and in its heyday had a fleet of its own Paddle Steamers as
well as 2 hotels to service its employees. The station provide camping access along the banks of the river at a moderate costs, as there are no amenities at all. They are looking to increase the facilities in the future. The lady who we had corresponded with prior to the trip was unfortunately sick when we arrived so we missed the tour around the historical parts.
