Since returning from our previous half lap around Australia we have talked continuously about doing another long trip. So the planning for this next trip started almost as soon as we got
home back in July 2015.
We shall be travelling again in our Nissan Pathfinder which has had a
snorkel fitted, new bull bar and under body bash plate along with new BF Goodrich tyres. Our
home for the next 4 months will be our Challenge Outback Deluxe camper Trailer. With new wheel bearings and tyres it is ready to go.
For our dog Chalkie he again will stay
home and look after the house sitter that will be staying at our place. We shall be
home schooling only Harrison (Y9) and
Morgan (Y7) this time as
Alexandra has now finished year 12.
This adventure will see us heading North in April up the West coast from
Perth, taking in the sights at
Steep point,
karijini national park,
Broome and then
Cape Leveque. Once in the Kimberly we plan to do the
Gibb River Road again. We loved this area so much on our last trip that it was a must see again this time. Once through the Gibb we shall head directly East to
Roper bar and follow the
Savannah Way, stopping at
Lorella Springs and other spots along the way. From Here we shall join the Burke Developmental Road and then onto the Peninsula Developmental Road and head to
Cape York. Depending on road conditions at the time we may tackle some of the Old Telegraph Track. Once at the Cape we plan to explore the area and then head back south via battle
camp road to
Cooktown and then to Carins via
Cape Tribulation and the
Daintree rain forests. We are looking to spend a week in the Carins area before heading to
Townsville via the coast road.
When we start to head west we may take the Flinders Highway across to
Mount Isa and then onto
Tennant Creek and then turn South to
Alice Springs or we may take the gravel option from
Winton onto the Kennedy Developmental Road then the
Plenty Highway through to
Alice Springs not quite sure yet. From
Alice Springs our daughter will fly
home to start University whilst the rest of us will visit Kings Canyon and Ayres
Rock. From here we will be taking the
Great Central Road through to Kalgoorlie and then
Home.
All up we will be on the road for 4 months, with some packing still to do we are all getting very excited and nervous about what the journey will bring. If it’s anything like our last trip it will be amazing, there are so many different landscapes, climates, people, animals, sunsets etc within this big country nothing is ever the same. The countdown is on.
