Well after a nice day we have setup
camp just south of Baladonia on the Overland Telegraph Track between
Norseman & Baladonia.
We started today out at
Emu Rock after a really cold and damp night. We actually had a really late start whilst we waited for our swags to dry. It did not rain just dewy. I reckon we got just as wet as if it had poured all night. It was certainly cold and I needed just a little more thermal gear on than I had, but the warm body next to me helped a lot.
So it was about 10:30 when we hit the
Hyden Norseman Road again. It was a slowish trip as we made numerous stops to climb the rocks and investigate all the marked sites along the way. These updates will all appear in
places once we get good service for Michelle's phone. It was a nice easy drive on a wide
well maintained road where highway speeds are safe and easy.
We hit
Norseman at about 2:30 and did not need to stop for anything so did a quick tourist lap and headed south. What? South?
Well yes we decided to travel off the Hwy for as long as possible and hence the Overland Telegraph Track was the choice.
We had just started the track and I quickly realised it was going to be a lot slower than the last road. We had a long narrow causeway over a
salt lake first which was exciting as there has been significant rain & the lake floided over the middle of the causeway for 20m so we had to assume we wouldn't get bogged in the middle. At this point I was wondering if I had made the right choice of roads. Anyway a few more kilometres in and I was happy enough. We travelled along at a reasonable pace till we made
camp about 50kms away from Baladoina.
We have a long drive ahead tomorrow needing to travel closer to 700km. But tonight sitting by the fire in t shirt and shorts makes it very pleasant. Must go and help
cook dinner now.
Till tomorrow.
