Edition 365: 18 December 2014
Hi ExplorOz Reader, What do you do when you get your weekly ExplorOz Newsletter? We hope you take the opportunity to read through it in detail but also follow the links and investigate what we're drawing your attention to. Running ExplorOz.com is much like running a local community, with a broad mix of people and their different needs and interests and so we feel obliged to alert you to all the important things that we've got to share with you. The ExplorOz newsletter is our only method of communicating such information of immediate interest and it's the most effective way to reach out to all our registered site users - currently 47,632 of you!
In this edition, as in every Newsletter, we launch our weekly Super Specials (found at the bottom) - these are 3 products that we select from our online shop that are massively reduced for a very limited time. We always select items that we feel are well stocked to cope with any sales rush but you have to be very quick before the price goes back to normal. We also include regular tips for using areas of the site that you may not have yet discovered; we offer you fun and often rewarding competitions; we advise of any new products added to our shop and of any popular products that have been reprinted or when new editions are released.
So sit back now and take a moment to enjoy this week's edition of the ExplorOz Newsletter:
| Three ExplorOz Competitons...
There's never a dull moment with ExplorOz - take a look at these 3 great
competitions. It's easy to win but as they say, you've got to be in it,
to win it! |
| 1: Rustic Outback PhotosEntries to the 2015 Photo Comp are now open! The theme is "The Rustic
Outback", so think windmills, old vehicles in paddocks, ruins, quaint
and quirky outback signs etc. Get creative and think of how the winning photo will be used as this will guide the judges' decision.
The purpose of this competition is to find the ideal scene that can be hand painted onto a saw blade (as per the 2014 photo comp). This saw blade will be a
unique and collectible art piece that will be the major prize in a raffle drawn at the 2015 ExplorOz Members National Gathering. A prize from ExplorOz is awarded to the winning photographer.
To participate, you'll need to be an ExplorOz Member
in order to submit your photo as a blog to the ExplorOz Blog section. You may give any title you like to your blog but you must tag your blog entry to the
Photo Comp 2015 category to enter. You may submit as many photos as you like and these may be submitted within the one blog or multiple blogs - its up to you. Competition closes
1st February 2015.

| Road Safety ReminderIt's an unfortunate fact that at holiday times more people are injured on our roads. Please remember it's never ok to drink and drive. Please don't use your phone when driving or even just sitting at traffic lights. It's time to lift our heads and be aware. Please remember to observe speed limits, especially in local roads. Our 14 year old daughter was hit by a car when riding her bike on the way to school last week and despite being very lucky to have escaped serious injury she was flung through the windscreen and both her bike and her helmet were broken. It was a serious accident but the driver was only doing 45km/hr and together with the fact that she was wearing a helmet, she escaped with only superficial wounds. Holidays are a time to be more aware of children and their erratic behaviour and expect the unexpected. And please, if you're riding a bike wear a helmet - even if on a bike path and of course, don't wear earphones playing music so that you can hear surrounding warning signals that help you avert danger. We all need to be extra vigilant to stay aware on our roads - so drivers, please don't use your phone when driving. If you're in the habit already of checking it at the traffic lights - its time to break the habit. People's lives rely on your not needing to check that message or change that song. We wish everyone in the ExplorOz community a safe holiday period whether you're a driver, cyclist, or pedestrian.
