We managed to get away after Christmas for a couple of weeks camping. Quite unlike any of our previous trips, this one had us observing a different demographic and in our blog we pose some questions for you. We also tested the Places near me feature using our phone in the vehicle and we're really happy with it. With such a large database Places is really doing its job of being able to accurately lead you to a suitable campsite when it's getting late. Just pick up your phone - go to Places - activate "Browse by: My Location" and up comes a list of places, showing distance and direction from your position. You can easily refresh the list or filter to only show POIs of interest (eg. camps). Perfect for those long hard days on the bitumen when you want to pull up a quick overnight road stop. Time out of the office is when we do our best forward planning for ExplorOz, and 2016 is going to be a challenging year as we have so many new things to bring out - with apps high on the agenda, plus a release to update EOTopo 2016. Coming home after a trip there's always so much cleaning and packing away to do but we do urge you to remember that ExplorOz is built upon you sharing your experiences back with us.

In particular, go through all your photos and for every Place you photographed, upload a selection of your photos to the applicable page in the ExplorOz Places section. You can do this directly off your phone, or you can use your computer.

If the Place description is lacking, please send us something we can publish. We are keen to have the Places page as accurate and informative as possible and if you've been there then your input is of value to others. All we need to know is what's there! The easiest way to communicate this is to click the Alert Admin button on the correct page and send us the relevant information.

Another worthwhile contribution is to rate a Place by leaving a Review. Of course, you can also create NEW Places (coordinates required) - just be careful to check "Nearby Places" in case a listing is already in the system. Did you know you can find coordinates for any Place from using EOTopo online? Just hover your cursor over a place - coordinates are displayed top right corner of the map.

As announced in last week's newsletter, we've added a new tool that allows you to change the display order of images and this applies to Places photos too. So if you upload new photos and you think they better depict the area than what's currently there, you can shift the order of the photos to show any photo in any order - just drag and drop.
