Hi ExplorOz Reader
Last month, we started our winter "research expedition" (AKA 4WD and camping holiday).
This is a big journey that started at the end of May to review, research and document new and
changed POIs, roads,
and 4wd tracks for our Traveller app users. We don't expect to be back
in the office until early September so we have taken our work on the road. Read on for our latest
news and updates.
This trip is our first time we've attempted to fully run the ExplorOz office whilst on the road
(there's just David and Michelle, no staff to run the office) so
this is a really important step. To make it happen we've done some major mods to our comms systems
and power as obviously we have to keep our business functional remotely - which includes
software development, customer service,
and content. We are self sufficient with solar power, invertors, and don't use a caravan or
generator.
We keep it as simple as possible so our capability to tackle any 4WD track is unaffected.

BLOG: Steep Point & Dirk Hartog Island
|
The first part of our trip was to Steep Point near Shark Bay. Steep Point is the most westerly point
of the Australian mainland - but so much more than that!
We also put our 4x4 and trailer onto the barge at Shelter Bay to spend 5 days on Dirk Hartog Island.
You can see all the photos, read all about it, and see our Track Log maps in this blog...

We also have a YouTube video with drone footage and out the windscreen showing our journey on/off the
barge,
and as we travelled the sand dunes and also and a quick look at the main campsites.
This video will give you some idea of how fantastic this trip is!

KIMBERLEY & NT - 2022
|
This weekend we will be starting the 2nd part of our trip. This will be our 5th trip into the
Kimberley and Red Centre so we have plans to check out
the spots that are new to us. However, our main concern is not tackling too much distance over the
10 weeks. We are continually stopping as we drive to ensure every opportunity for documentation and
mapping verification is optimised. The itinerary is something we work out as we go.
