MundAl - Mundaring to Dwellingup

The MundAl Trek is a new touring route launched by the WA 4WD Association for the start of the 2018-19 summer season. Starting from the town of Mundaring in the Perth hills just 30km east of the CBD the route weaves through bushland trails and provides opportunities for sight seeing and camping.

The complete MundAl trek leads all the way to Albany bypassing the main roads and instead passes through sections of the Munda Biddi cycling track, farmland, and forestry areas. For convenience and simplicity, we have prepared the MundAl track as a series of shorter Trek Notes and this one covers the first section from Mundaring to Dwellingup. Please refer to the related treks for the additional trek notes that you will need for following the entire route to Albany.

The route enables a variety of tourist activities and attractions to be visited and there is plenty of scope for bushwalking. You will pass close to, or through small towns and you will be in the vicinity of further 4WD activity if you wish to detour from the route provided for further exploring. You are encouraged to take time to experience the surrounding areas and their attractions. You will have access to a range of accommodation encompassing everything from hotels, motels, B&Bs, regulated camping and bush camping.

Please note the additional information provided in the Preparation section below and be aware that will need to be on the look out for other recreation users including cyclists and hikers.

Environment

Fire restrictions are in place at various times along the full length of the track and must be adhered to at all times.

Parts of the track will be the subject of closure due to weather, fire or other events and will need to be monitored by anyone immediately prior to and during any use of the track. You will not be able to access a mobile phone network on some sections of the track.If wet, do not attempt this track solo and always carry recovery equipment.

Permits

No permit is required to travel this route however when entering any national park or state forest you must abide by any travel restrictions particularly if near a DRA or Prescribed Burning Operations are imminent. You need to be aware of Water Corp restrictions in any area you may be travelling through as well as fire restrictions. There will be seasonal closures on some parts of the track due to weather and other events and you must make prior checks for any closure information.
