Description

The Yorke Peninsula trek note is a round trip beginning and ending at Port Pirie and taking in a total distance of around 774kms. There are many ports and towns along the way including: Port Victoria, Port Moorowie, , Port Vincent and the towns of Edithburgh and Ardrossan. There is plenty of things to do along the way and if you are into surfing, swimming, fishing and diving and beautiful bays and beaches, then the long drive is well worth it.

The highlight of the trip is definitely the Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park. This is where the Yorke Peninsula's real attraction begins and as you head around the end of the peninsula, the coast becomes very scenic and lined by cliffs which have claimed a fair share of its own shipwrecks. Be sure to check out the numerous salt lakes and the historic Inneston township as you head further into the park.

Within the Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park there are a number of camp sites. Pondalowie Bay is the biggest campsite in the park and has showers and is situated just near a bay of the same name with a fantastic sheltered beach. A lot of people are drawn to Innes National Park for its excellent surf and the break from in front of the Surfers Campground (aptly named) is pretty popular and deservedly so. From the Surfers Campground, it’s another 6kms to Dolphin and Shell Beach (both with excellent swimming) and Browns Beach is a beautiful spot and good for snorkelling. It’s worth a 2-3 day stay in the park to see everything that it has to offer.
