Hi,

Is it needed/recommended ?

I just purchased a CP Box which I thought would do the job but....

Which one off these would do the job for a 2022 DMAX with Android Auto. connecting to a Samsung Phone S23+ to use the ExploreOZ Traveller app.

Which T Box?

I have the Tbox Ambient. Model CPC200. The CPU is Qualcomm 6225. I purchased it from the link on this site that ensured I got the correct one to do the job.

David & Michelle did their research, and I trusted their recommendation.

It appears to be the second one in from the left of your screenshot. (EDIT referring to top row)

It is running Android Auto nicely and in particular Exploreoz Traveller which is the specific reason I purchased it as that is my main source of mapping when out of town.

Also, to date the other handful of Android apps that I use are working with no issues, example Wikicamps, Sygic, Spotify, Weather zone, BOM etc

I use a Samsung S23+ like you, but the phone has nothing to dop with the device, its simply USB plug into a compatible Android Auto head unit .

It does link to the phone for phone calls etc but you lose the steering wheel controls for phone calls when the device is connected. That no big deal

I was watching a few youtube vids and they reccomend 1st one left?

What vehicle ya running on? Does it have Android Auto?

Would be nice if someone had similar setup :-)

I am running it on a Landcruiser 300 series. Yes, as I mentioned it has Android Auto.

There are others that have set up the same device I mentioned on other vehicles with Android Auto.

Like I mentioned in my post I ran with David and Michelles post and link to purchase. You may or may not find another device that works, and you may or may not find a better price.

I couldn't see any point in having the experts saying it works with ExploreOz Traveller and then look elsewhere...your call.

Hi,

I just ordered the one above. 128gb instead of 64gb and faster CPU.

Just didn't want to waste 300$!!

Sending the $99 device back to China is a pain as it was for Carplay head unit. Instructions and info explained was a 3 in one and suitable. I confirmed with them before ordering!!!

Well after a lot of pain I have eventually got the Tbox MAX Ambient working and updated with Explore OZ.

Just spending a bit of time learning all the things it can do and installing a few apps.

The issue I was having was solved by a fellow forum user as Carplaylink were not much help and just offered a refund....

The issue was that the device was not getting enough power from the connection to the head unit.

A fellow forum user had a SPARE and sent it express to me (for a fee) :-)

The connection/power now goes from Cig lighter to Head unit connection then to the carlink unit.

Would be nice if could adjust the contrast as it is a bit bright. ?

I have just purchased this one but it is about a week away still - Carlinkit Android 11 Wireless Carplay AI Box Android Auto Youtube Adapter 16GB

I hope I have got what I wanted but I will only find out once I try using it and set it up in the car.

What I specifically wanted was to be able to load apps onto the box and use those apps without needing to have the phone with me. I tried to find out why it has a memory slot but there is very little information out there, you are just expected to know.

Hopefully this box will allow to to virtually used the infotainment unit in the car as an Android device and allow me to select between the car screen, the Android screen for this unit plus my iPhone using Carplay.

Appreciate any feedback from those that know otherwise I guess it gets used as an expensive dongle ;=))

Thanks for your feedback, I tried asking Carlinkit but all they would say was it would work with my Infotainment unit but kept missing my question about the memory slot and what I could do with it.

Time will tell.

Well, my iBox arrived Monday and had a fiddle this morning and it works just how I thought it was going to so I am a happy chappy. ;=))

I can run the infotainment unit in 3 ways
1 The standard MG setup
2 Use the iBox (see link in my original post) running Android 11
3 Carplay using my iPhone 11 via wireless connection.

Still need to load up som apps on the iBox, mainly Sygic plus a decent Charging Station finder for when I am away from home.

I think of the iBox as an apps server but it turns the MG infotainment unit to an Android Tablet all be it version 11, version 15 being the latest, but it might be upgradeable to a newer version.
