We have an evakool upright 2. Door caravan fridge.
We’ve had heaps of trouble with it. Just wondering if anyone here has one and if they have sorted out any of the many issues they have.
Did some research on the compressor in ours, a secop /danfoss which is good, but it’s only half the recommended size for our fridge volume.
Evakool fixed the first and second failure, but they have now dropped this fridge from their range.
Any help appreciated

G'day Graham.
What manner of trouble have you had? Maybe if you expand on that, and describe the problems, some assistance might be forthcoming and aimed at solving your problems!

Firstly the fridge wouldn’t stop running, this fault was repaired twice by Evakool, it still has that problem l, but now it won’t hold temperature in the fridge, the freezer pulls down to - 18 degrees.

Hi Graham L12,
I think I would be contacting Evakool and asking for a replacement fridge if it is still under warranty. It certainly sounds like it is “not fit for purpose”.
Macca.

We are on our replacement 3rd fridge, each have ended up with the same symptoms /faults.
Evakool have taken this model out of their product range.
They sold quite a few of these fridges. I’m wondering if anyone here has got one or had one and what their experience has been.
Cheers

I would be back onto Evacool for a better resolution.
You haven’t mentioned how old it is but if that particular product is no good you might be able to get the updated version at a heavily discounted price as a form of resolution

Hi Graham,
The symptoms you describe are typically those of refrigerant loss, i.e. a leak.
If you are now on your 3rd replacement it points to a common product fault and Evakool have a responsibility to address that.
As you say, that model has been discontinued but Evakool still have a responsibility. The fridge should be replaced with a current equivalent model at no charge to you. If Evakool do not honour their responsibility then you have cause to lodge a complaint with the ACCC.

I have one of their single door fridges, it’s ok but not great , if/when I need to replace it it will be with one of these.

Hi Wicket,
I'm sure that Nova Kool are great fridges, but sheeeesh, the prices. Put the word "Marine" anywhere in the description and see the price skyrocket.
I run a respecable Vitrifrigo (Italian) 118 litre upright fridge/freezer that cost about $1300.
An equivalent 122 litre Nova Kool retails at $2240, almost double the price. It would need to be good!
But, you get what you pay for…… at least you hope so.
EDIT: I have just finished browsing the technical information available online for these Nova Kool refrigerators and it is overwhelming to say the least. Maybe their price is justified on that alone. Other manufacturers are notable for their minimal and misleading info.

Maybe I am wrong , but if it is a fridge /freezer with ONE compressor to cool both compartment s it has to use some of the freeze ability to pass air over the Evaporator to get cooled air in the fridge compartment. If so, the fan may be the issue and relatively easy to diagnose or replace if it is not functioning correctly. If it is running all the time, then is seems the temp detection is working but cannot arrive at a sufficiently cool atmosphere in the fridge compartment.
Is something is obstructing the, cool to cabinet airflow OR the fan simply not circulating airflow?
Is the fan functioning? Can it be accessed? perhaps replaced if it isn't working. That might solve your problem!
PS. I do not have a 2 door 12v fridge so simply remote diagnosis here.
Adding side insulation cladding/foam sheet, and perhaps an external 12 computer fan to the Condenser section airflow might also assist performance. There is a lot of things you can do to increase efficiency, reduce run time and power usage.

RMD, Fridges can be manufactured with two compartments, freezer and cooler, each with separate evaporators but with a single compressor/condenser. This is achieved bu using two expansion capillaries which apportion the refrigerant in an essentially fixed ratio . It is a compromise arrangement that does not achieve close control of each evaporator and the thermostat is attached to only one evaporator. It can work reasonably enough for a domestic refrigerator. An alternate but possibly inferior system is to connect the two evaporators in series. I am not familiar with the actual EvaKool arrangement but Graham says that there are two chambers, each with their own evaporator and only one compressor.

Research Australian Consumer Law’ a product must be ‘fit for purpose’. If not you are entitled to a full refund or replacement- regardless of warranty period. That refund is the responsibility of the retailer. Go hard and demand your legal solution.

It’s a 2 Door fridge freezer, there’s no air exchange between the freezer and fridge.
Evakool repaired the first fridge and have done 2 replacement fridges.
The new or repaired fridges all suffered the same end.
The freezer section would stay cold (-18 degrees). With a set point of + 3 the fridge compartment would fluctuate -1 to + 6 or 7, and the compressor wouldn’t stop running. Drawing up to 8 amps.

Keep at your supplier for restitution. You have had enough models of the fridge to prove their worth.

Perhaps you should have told us ALL OF THAT right at the beginning and then replies would be vastly different.
If it isn't made to work properly then it probably won't.

My evakool tends to run continuously (but not all the time) when ambient gets to low 30s, the freezer will go down to -20s and the fridge starts to drop below 0.
What i do then is to slowly turn the dial till the compressor stops then turn it back to just below where it was without running again.

What steps have you taken so far?
Have you got a written report from an independant technician?
If so and ever cool is dicking you around the threat of small claims court is usually enough to make them realise your serious but you have to do it properly not just say it in an email. It is easy for them to tell if your serious or not by who you send the email to, you can not target a company through small claims it has to be a person so spend $10 (or it used to be) to find out who the responsible director of the company is and direct your letter of demand to that person. If you just target the company it will get to the hearing stage and be dismissed and you lose your application fee. Ever cool will know this and just fob you off if you don't do it right.
Go to your local courthouse and speak with the clerk of the court, they will guide you.
You have tried doing it nicely so if they don't offer you a different model free or a full refund go for the throat. And don't forget the installation costs of the 3 faulty units.

Australian Consumer Law is the way to go. A product must be fit for purpose, if it has a major failure the consumer can demand either a repair or replacement from the retailer (not the manufacturer). Even outside the warranty period.

Reality
check time.
Australian Consumer Law is a wonderful piece of idealist legislation, but completely without any enforcement mechanism. Neither federal nor state consumer support bodies will actually take any action on behalf of a consumer, leaving it up to the affected individual to take their own legal action. The costs involved (and risk of having to bear that in part of in full) may outweigh the possible benefit.

Yes Zippo I agree.
Usually the threat accompanied with a bit of evidence that you actually know how to do it will do it, the company doesn't want the hassle either.
The really annoying part that enforces the shit state of our legal system is even if small claims rule in your favour and issue the business an amount payable to you, they can not force the business to actually pay it, that is when you need to take them to a higher court to actually sue them.
Not really worth it for an amount covered by small claims.

Graham asked about his fridge problem, but nearly all replies give advice on Litigation and LEGAL avenues of any product not performing properly.
Perhaps we should have a LEGAL ADDRESS section, where ANY product can be pursued, and leave the
forum to replies pertinent to the actual problem people experience, and may receive a technical answer or diagnosis!

We also have an upright Evakool fridge freezer platinum series DC210. Biggest load of rubbish we have ever bought. 4 years old, hardly used because of health issues. Retailer was not helpful, refered us to another local caravan repair business who won't touch Evakool. ( I wonder why) So our fridge/freezer just stopped. Compressor doesn't run and fan not working. Evakool suggested it was the circuit breaker, bought and replaced that....... nothing. They suggested it was a power problem, no we had already made sure that wasn't the problem. We have to take the fridge to Evakool, something we are unable to do at the present time, and after reading everything on this
forum and all the other posts on the net, we haven't come across anyone who has had a satisfactory result or any help. At the end of the day we have decided to cut our losses, there is no point in throwing good money after bad in an attempt to get a bandaid fix. We are looking at a Bushman fridge freezer as a replacement so would love some
feedback on this company and their products.
