Hi all, I am planning an off road motorcycle trip from east Gippsland to Finke for the race, viewing only! Was looking at a leg from
Silverton, just out of
Broken Hill, up through Smithville House, along the
dog fence and onto Cameron's corner. has anyone done this run and is it feasible?

Apart from a couple of short sections, you can not legally follow the
dog fence without specific permission, which you are unlikely to get.
30 odd years ago, we did drive on station tracks via Quinyambie Station on the west side of the border as far as the Tilcha ruin, at the invitation of Quinyambie management. There are station tracks that go all the way to
Cameron Corner and it is beautiful country.
You could try getting permission to do that. It used to be possible until some idiots tore the tracks up when wet and they stopped it. Ownership has since changed (Gina Rinehart last I knew) so maybe worth trying, but don't get your hopes up.
Cheers,
Peter

Legally you cant follow any of the
dog fence. There is one short section of road from Smithville due north that parallels the
dog fence but you cannot ride next to the fence itself. We do this route a couple of times a year. You can go through Siverton or up Corona road. They both end up Teilta which is now a
Park and has a campground. All roads are
well signed. If you are going to Camerons Corner the you will go through Hewart Downs, Stewart Lake and Waka. Waka is on the road from Tibboburra to Camerons Corner. If you want a really pretty ride you can go from Hewart Downs to Gumvale and then to Camerons Corner. The majority of the roads shown on ExploreOz in that area are station access only.

We prefer the
dog fence to the Silver City Hwy.

Hi Peter A34,
Right now the
Cameron Corner Store is closed owing to the recent rains, however it should open again once the flooding has subsided.
We travelled the route you have described back in 2012, it is quite doable, with a number of station gates to go through. However as others have stated, you will only actually travel along the fence line for a short distance. There are some lakes and low areas that can have
water in them.
Where are headed after
Cameron Corner?
Macca.

Yeh done that trip year before last . No problems. We were 6 vehicles only way you’d have any trouble would be if it was wet. There is a track right next to the
dog fence for maintenance & another one further away from the fence for the public.
