Hello to all ExploreOz blog readers.

This is our first blog on this site. We have been blogging elsewhere as we have been exploring Oz for the last couple of years. In preparing for this trip we have received a great deal of assistance from ExploreOz forum contributors. We think it is only fair to share our experiences as a result.

On 2nd July we leave Brisbane for Horsham where we join two friends and board a small aircraft for a flying tour over the “wet centre”. After seeing the Cooper, parts of the Simpson Desert and Lake Eyre from the air we return to Horsham and drive through much of the same area. For us both of these activities are firsts.

The air tour is run by Wrightsair of William Creek. On the tour we spend nights at Bedourie and William Creek, land for lunch at Innamincka and Birdsville and fly over Cooper Creek, Goyder Lagoon, parts of the Simpson Desert, Warburton Creek and Lake Eyre. On the way home via Port Pirie we fly over Anna Creek Station.

We will return to Brisbane via the Birdsville Track, Birdsville and the towns of the far south west of Queensland. We will return briefly to South Australia to spend a night at Innamincka before moving on to a cattle station for three days. Then it’s off home.

Our accommodation will be in park cabins, dongas and country pubs. We will carry basic camping equipment hoping not to need it. The same goes for spare tyres and parts.
We will update ExploreOz readers by blog entries with pictures as regularly as possible but there will be days or nights when we are beyond the reach of Next G.

Only five days to go and we are really looking forward to being under way.
