Today was a travel day followed by a rest. The trip back towards Wynyard was relaxing with very little traffic. The plan was to stock up the food supplies in Wynyard and we found the
long vehicle parking adjacent to the
supermarket a great help. After shopping we filled up with diesel and headed south along the road to
Waratah through a number of small towns. The road was windy and narrow at times but the traffic was again light and not problems were encounted. The Hellyer
Gorge was a great little stopping place for lunch, with
toilets and a
shelter. A pleasant walk down through the bush to the river and then back along the river to the main road was great. After talking to the maintenance people who were at the wayside stop we decided to stop for the night at the
Waratah caravan park. The park is unique in its layout and very relaxed, it has a new set of toilets/showers where you get the key that enables you to access the facilities. The
toilet and shower is together in what is like a small bathroom. The park is very ably managed by the Shire and the locals have great pride in the town and its facilities. This proved to be a very convenient place to stay as it will enable us to visit Savage River and Corina tomorrow, that we couldn't get to from the west side due to a
bridge being replaced and a washaway on the Western wilderness road. We will also be based here for a trip to
Cradle Mountain the following day.
