Description

A large desert gum reaching over 20m high. Bark smooth throughout, white, shedding in brownish short ribbons or in small polygonal flakes. Leaves are dull green 4 - 6cm long, 1-2cm wide. Flowers are white to cream and appear after good rain. Spherical fruits (gumnuts) give the tree its common name and are about 10-12mm across.

Identification

The main flower colour is white. Any gum with a single trunk in the Great Victoria Desert will be a Marble Gum

Uses

It provides food and habitat for a number of Australian bird species.
