Fuel is on everyone’s mind right now - and this is one area where we can help each other.

ExplorOz Places has been built on real traveller updates for 26 years, especially for remote stops where info is hardest to find.

If you’re passing through a roadhouse, remote region, small town, or aboriginal community take a moment to:

* check the place provided for fuel is current (add/update any changes)
* update the price of fuels b posting a review
* confirm availability
* note anything useful

Every review is date-stamped, so even a quick note helps the next traveller plan with confidence.

It only takes seconds while you’re filling up - but it makes a real difference out bush.

D&M , It might be worthwhile mentioning that updates and changes mentioned above would be by way of a review and not changing the body of the description I.e can you improve this entry .
Cheers Nick

Whilst I was on my last trip about a month ago from Far North Coast NSW to Streaky Bay in South Australia, I came across about 6 places where the Diesel prices were 40 to 60c cheaper than the majors..at the time Diesel was pushing about $2.80/ltr.
These places where in the small agricultural towns that were dotted around the Yorke Peninsula and off the beaten track so to speak, they were in the main streets with the diesel bowser looking pretty worst for ware.
In one place I had to go in and check that the price was right and that the diesel bowser was working as the place was an old agricultural hardware store that looked a bit battered.
I have a social media diesel app, where people can put in the new diesel prices, these couple of places were not even mentioned, so I left it that way and did nothing, noting, that these small out of the way outlets would be principally for the locals and farmers etc.
That being said, the cheapest diesel at the time in NSW I found was at the BP depot in Wilcannia...near in the middle of NSW , I couldn't get my head around that one.

In NSW the state govt has an app "NSW Fuel Map' where anyone that sells fuel must supply morning and aftenoon prices, availability of the different fuels and opening hours which comes in very handy when travelling. I think there is also a quantity for each fuel too but haven't worked out if it's on the app.

Hi Peter g28,

One of the reasons why some of these smaller out of the way places still had their prices down was because of their turnover volume being much less than some of the larger places. They may not have had a refill for a while, so their price was still at the pre “war” price.

I was thinking that in regards to local demand for fuel as at the time fuel hoarding was "rife" as some outlets and some servo's were limiting 100 ltrs per vehicle.
So to put some of these "out of the way places" in the fuel app would be harming the locals and farmers who needed fuel for day to day activities, as I was just passing through.

I can remember when I bought a XD Falcon. Converted it to LPG and gas was around 5 cents a litre...happy days!!!! I had an electronic timing gizmo fitted that altered the timing when gas was used. Power was not too far off petrol and mileage was not too far off either. Gas was far and away a hell of a lot cheaper than petrol which was about 30 cents a litre!!!!
