Hi All

Just after some info for an older couple as to the current condition of the Roper Hwy. They are towing an off road van. Also not sure on current depths of river crossings.
Mataranka down to Borroloola.
Also any good spots to camp with a van on the way down

Cheers
Lyndon

ExplorOz Member PMK3 is there now. Maybe he can comment. We’ll be there in about a week too. NT Road reports page should confirm if theres anything to be concerned about.

Thanks guys.

NT road reports can be a bit vague at times.

I've driven the road a few times myself. At least I can tell them the crossings are rocky not quicksand, but as for current depths etc....

They are in Darwin ATM and as it could be 2 weeks before they head down there, so any current reports during your travels would be appreciated. I'd hate to give them a bum steer.

We always bush camp, but I see there are some paid sites listed along the way now, unfortunately, no member feed back on the App as yet. I'm thinking, Mountain Creek and DiDI Baba camp and Yurrimunji camp. Any feedback on these would be great.

Thanks

Lyndon

A few old pics of the Savannah Way from 2007..... with a story.
I doubt it has changed much?

This last crossing was on the road into Lorella Springs.

Hi Peter

We dragged a reasonable sized boat out to Rosie creek at Lorella in March/April 2005. Only folks there. Amazing water way, caught my biggest fish ever there.
70km, took us two goes at it, late cyclone. Burned out the winch, tore the cabling out from the diff locks.

Was an experience for sure.

Cheers

Lyndon, unfortunately we could not get out to Rosie Creek. It was still too early after the wet.
We spent 10 days or so exploring locally and doing odd jobs to keep entertained.

Fantastic piece of country.
We later stayed at Rett's home for a couple of nights south of Darwin.
Cheers,
Peter

Spent a week or so at Lorella in 09. Towed the tinny out to Rosie creek bush camp for a couple of nights. Great spot, part of the old boat trailer is still there somewhere and bent the trailer axle on a stump I did not see
Chatted to Rhett's mum for ages one night.....can't remember her name, but an amazing lady I could have gleaned knowledge from for days.
Now that it's closed we get back to Limmen when we can.
Have been there a few times over the years, and like the fact there are basic amenities there which suits us as we get older.
Also Patsy is a wealth of knowledge.
