Sydney Coast Happy Walk is my personal campaign walk to raise awareness of depression and promote discussion and compassion for people who are struggling with thoughts of suicide, feelings of worthlessness, acts of self harm and suicide attempts.

It is a 7 day, 170km walk along the Sydney coastline from Otford on the south side of Royal National Park to Barrenjoey Lighthouse in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Half way I will be stopping at The Gap to remember the 2000 people across Australia each year who feel life is too painful to continue and can't reach out for help.

Living with depression, feeling suicidal, caring for or losing someone suffering mental illness is the most painful psychological time in life so this walk will be physically tough with some long days and challenging terrain, no walk in the park.

Here is the itinerary

Sunday 4th to Saturday 10th March 2012

Day 1 Otford - Bundeena 26kms,
Day 2 Cronulla - Kurnell 21kms,
Day 3 La Perouse - Bondi 23kms,
Day 4 Bondi - The Rocks 30kms,
Day 5 The Rocks - Manly 35kms,
Day 6 Manly - Avalon 26kms,
Day 7 Avalon - Barrenjoey 10kms

I will be giving out postcards for mental health, depression awareness, helping yourself and others as well as useful numbers and websites to get help and information.

Please come and join me for a walk, a chat or just to meet.

I'll update with more info like estimated start/finish/break times and locations, media spots closer to the start and I'll add a photo album and some accommodation reviews when I finish.

More info can be found at www.thehappywalk.com and you can contact me at thehappywalker@gmail.com and here at the ExploreOz Forum.
