Today’s trip was to travel from Lightning Ridge to Narrabri via Walgett, Burren Junction and Wee Waa. The roads were all bitumen so the conditions were good, although the road from Lightning Ridge to Walgett has some traps, so watch out for the “Rough Road ahead” signs. The problem was that some weren’t too rough, so just when you relax and don’t slow down very much, they throw in a really good one. The wind was basically south Westerly all day so we had a partial head wind whilst heading south, but after we turned east it was behind us.
We planned to stop for a morning break at Burren Junction but couldn’t find anywhere stop comfortably. We then decided to press on to Wee Waa and unfortunately missed the fact that the Artesian Springs were on the side of the road well out of town. We noticed a number of caravans and RV’s in the car park. After a quick discussion we decided to keep going rather than turn back.
Wee Waa was a great little town with a nice park with shade trees to park under and shelter’s with tables. The town itself was very neat and tidy and we have decided to add it to a future stopping point.
We are now in Narrabri and have visited the Information centre to get a map and points to visit. Tomorrow we plan to do the tourist thing and visit some of the places listed.
