1st October
Well what a fantastic time we have been having, done all the theame parks, watched the kids do all the rides. Had some R&R caught up with the family, stayed with our travling buddies who showed us some sights, Glass House Mountains, Noosa and
Rainbow Beach, which is the nicest beach we’ve seen so far on our travels and now we are back on the road. Had our first night at Jondaryan Woolshead which was a lovely location and very interesting, loads of history just a shame that some of the old machinery sheds were locked. We then changed our plans when the road was to slow and busy (we are over the traffic) and headed for
St George and what pretty little town on the Balonne River it is. Stayed two night at
Kapunda Fishing Park right on the river enjoyed a very realaxing boat cruise with Sandytown River Cruises a great fire and a few to many drinks.
Spent a night at
Wilson River, Noccundra.(diesel $1.96) Nice location (flies mozzies were a little too freindly) before we crossed the border to head down the Strezleki, bit sad to be leaving Queensland. Called through Innaminka, top up with fuel (diesel$2.10) quick drink at the pub then on the road. We went down the old track and made it to
Montecollina Bore where we camped the night,good fire,few drinks awesome. The track is more like a road than a track and
miles and
miles of nothing except oil wells, had no idea there was so many out there.
Quick swim in the
bore, water is rather hot coming out of the pipe. Continued on and made it to
Marree the weather is sure warming up, definately no need for a fire and a not a good place to discover that we have lost all our
drinking water. The bottom hose got dislodged and stones flicking up must have knocked the tap on, not impressed about it. Bought 40lts so that will get us through to our mates place in
Kingoonya if we don’t mess about.

Marree diesel $2.05). Satyed at the caravan park, it was just ok. Thought it would be great to see Lake Eyre from the air so booked a flight for the morning so an early start it will be. Woke up to wind, not a good sign so as we were expecting the flight was cancelled so feeling a little dissapointed we headed up toward the south lake and
the Bubbler. Seeing the lake from the ground only gave us a little impresson of how big it really is, impressive though. Checked out
the Bubbler and
Blanche Cup then headed back to the Borefield Road. Definately glad the flight was cancelled now wind has really picked up and visability is about 100m couldn’t even see the lake as we drove past. Borefield road was another good road even though it was blowing its ass off. Called through the oasis town of
Roxby Downs, has a Woolworths and all, topped up and on our way. (Diesel $1.709) Stopped in at
Woomera and missed the museum by about half an hour, bummer…
Made it to
Kingoonya set up
camp and off to the pub for dinner and what a great little pub and a top feed, chat with the locals then off to bed. (Diesel $1.750).
7th October
Look out
Googs Track here we come, a little bit apprehesive about doing it from North to South and towing a trailer from all you read but will give it a go anyway. Don’t know what we were worried about it was a great track and probably the beter way to do it. Was like going down a stair case on the south side of the dunes as they were fairly
well chopped out. Camped one night along the way checked out the lake and stopped at
Ceduna for the night and will be stocking up on our oyster supply before heading off on the last leg of our journey
home.
