31st July

Quiet day today around the camp doing school work and packing up ready to hit the road.Home made pie night at the bar the early (and very nice they were) then off to bed.

1st August

Up and away at a reasonable time (for us anyway) called through Borraloola for some supplies and a bit of internet coverage then on our way down the Savannah Way to King Fisher Camp. The Road was pretty good a little rough in spots and the odd whip but nice and steady gives no problems. Was a good drive through, some small river crossings lots of cows and the odd Kangaroo and sighted our first nasty snake crossing the road. We crossed the border with a little excitement, (never been to Queensland before) put the clock forward 30 minutes, realised that getting to King Fisher Camp was out of the question so we stopped on the edge of Cliffdale Creek set up camp, ching ching to being in Queensland, dinner with lots of midgies then off to bed with the dingoe s howling in the background.

2nd August

Little windy today but up and away towards Adels Grove. Took the drive in through King Fisher Camp, definitely would have got in late if we had kept going yesterday. What a beautiful location on the Nicolson River, great looking camp spots lots of trees and lawn. Continued south the track was very dusty, like talc powder so definetly no driving with the windows down. The crossing through Elisabeth Creek was by far the best one yet, and very beautiful. Got into Adels Grove around 3pm, the places are just getting better and better. The kids had swim in the creek, the water is a aqua colour and you can see the bottom, they didn’t know that there were fresh water crocodiles in there though. They jumped off the rope in the tree and from the platoon and had a great time, at last they get a swim where its warm and safe.

3rd August

Light pitter patter of rain on the canvas this morning but nothing to concerning, bird singing and a pink sunrise. Packed lunch and bathers and headed of to Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) to do a bit of canoeing. We hired two canoes ($50 each for 2 hours) and headed up the creek through the gorges and it is beautiful so peaceful and the colour of the water is amazing. We spotted two turtles and got spat on by the archer fish, didn’t see any crocodiles but I’m pretty sure the bubbles coming up were them on the bottom. Had a swim at the end of the first gorge and a natural massage from the waterfall, (hope that will help my shoulders after the canoeing). Defintely well worth the trip in there.
Diesel price at Adels Grove $2.055/ lt

4th August

On the road again and heading to Normanton through Gregory Downs then up through Augustus Downs, the road was really good came across some guys and girls moving cattle didn’t want to get in the way so we waited for a bit then passed through ( the fellow on the two way wasn’t very freindly but we are not all idiots). Stopped for lunch on the Leichardt Rivers with about a dozen wallabies then headed off, called through Burke and Wills camp 119 then headed for town. We stayed at the Normanton Toursist Park which was nice, in the cetre of town and had a great pool even if it was a little chilli in the water. Couldn’t help ourselves but go across to the Central Pub and have a couple of cold ones and a feed and what a great big meal it was.

5th August

Off to see the king of the Savannah, thank god hes not in the water now but there is one that is pretty big still out there. We headed across to Karumba, and what a nice little town it is, we stayed at the Karumba Point Station, lucky we got a shady spot. The other caravan parks here seem to jam people in. Quiet evening under the shady tree.

6th August

Uuugghhh !!!!! the car is making a funny noise!!!!!!!!

Went down to the Barramundi Discovery centre, very interesting, and what a good job they are doing, good day to go as we got to hand feed them and touch some.
Drove back to camp slowly trying to work out where the noise was coming from, (I think I can feel it under my feet). Decided we will head back to Normation tomorow the mechanic here dosen’t seem to accomadating. Fingers crossed we make it and I still get to kiss Wal on the tip.
