Today we arrived at the Hunter River a pristine, 30 km waterway home to an immense mangrove system surrounded by soaring red sandstone cliffs. Narrow mangrove channels shelter numerous bird species, mudskippers, fiddler crabs and the infamous saltwater crocodile. We travelled up Porosus Creek at low tide. Indian Head is a spectacular, chiselled rock formation (known as Kampamantiya in the local Uunguu language) guarding the river mouth, which is often compared to the features of a Native American chief.

In the afternoon we had a second zodiac excursion this time at high tide cruising down the Hunter River.
