Best of Lake Argyle cruise, is a 6 1/2 hour cruise to see the full length and breath of the Lake Argyle. This trip travels from the rugged northern end to the vast expanses of the southern reaches and covering up to 120km in between. Lake Argyle is Australia’s largest freshwater reservoir by volume, holding over 10.7 billion cubic meters of water, the massive man-made lake is roughly 18 times larger than Sydney Harbour. Formed by the Ord River Dam in 1971 to support agriculture, the lake is classified as an inland sea and covers up to 1,000 square kilometres.

Argyle mine was previously situated here from 1985 until November 2020 following several years of discoveries and yielded 865 million carats of diamonds.

We stopped on a remote island to fossick for Amethyst, on which only moments before there were 3 fresh water crocodiles sunning themselves on the bank. We cruised past the submerged site of ‘Argyle Downs’, the Durack Family’s Homestead and listened to stories about the pioneering families and how they began the pastoral industry in the Eastern Kimberley. We stopped to enjoy the changing colours of sunset reflecting across the lake near Monsmont Island the perfect end to a magnificent day on Lake Argyle.

We arrived early for the cruise and went to the resort for a coffee prior to the cruise, we saw the famous infinity pool and some more of the intricately carved metal pictures we have been seeing, they are just stunning.

We arrived back at Lake Argyle and we had dinner at the resort before hitting the road for the 1 hour drive home. A vert relaxing day.
