Day 50 Kununurra

Today we had a day in Kununurra. After doing the washing etc we headed into town and stopped at the Pink Diamond Dealer, they were really beautiful to look at and I didn't know that there were also champagne & cognac diamonds. Rio Tinto's Argyle mine Australia's only diamond mine; produced 90 per cent of the world's pink diamonds. The mine produced over 865 million carats of rough diamonds over its lifespan. Because pink diamonds became notoriously difficult to find, the reserve was exhausted after 40 years of operation, making reopening the mine impossible and it ceased operation in November 2020.

After being dazzled by the diamonds we went to Celebrity Tree Park. We had a stroll through the manicured park and pondered on the trees and monuments planted by John Farnham, HRH Princess Anne, and Harry Butler, to name a few.









We then went and had lunch at a cafe under the mango trees.




We then went to a shop that specialises in stones of the Kimberley Rockalong Stonework. They had amazing things made from Zebra Rock, Okapi, Ribbon, Astronomite and Ningbing.









Next stop was Waringarri Aboriginal Arts







We then went to Kelly's Knob Hike to see panoramic views of Kununurra and the surrounding landscape. Thegoowiyeng is the traditional Miriwoong name for Kelly's Knob, the highest point and most iconic lookout in Kununurra. Kelly's Knob was named after the Catholic Priest Father Kelly.











Back into Kununurra to visit Artlandish Aboriginal Art Gallery.
